I know you’ve all been waiting with bated breath for the “save the date” announcement for the next Classic Eats event. Alas, we’ll have to wait for a while longer. Starting next week I will be out of town until December and as December is generally packed full of holiday events, we’ll hold off until January and celebrate the new year with Classic Eats #9.
Thanks for all the great evenings we’ve had in 2009 and keep making your suggestions for places to visit in 2010!

After a long hot day, what a refreshing evening of cool breezes, salty air and fresh fish we had at The Reel Inn last Saturday night! Thanks to all who came out to partake of the fun and fish and festive company. There was surfing trivia and Primo beer, and I personally was stoked.
Mohans, a Metblog author from Dublin staying in Cali for a few months, made it up from Irvine for the event, yay for him! We also had some other first timers to Classic Eats – welcome Shannon, hopefully the regulars didn’t scare you off the next one. Burns! and Mr. Hooks — you were both missed.
Thanks again for a fun, low key, hot summer night!
Look for Classic Eats #8 coming in a few short weeks…more on that in another post.
More pix after the jump.

See you tomorrow at 6pm at the Reel Inn for Classic Eats: Hot Summer Nights Edition. The Reel Inn has tons of outdoor seating, which is where I’ll be with Metblogs signs.
Just FYI, the Reel Inn has a counter where you order, then they call your name. So come on in, get in line, get your order up and then come out and find the gang enjoying a beautiful LA evening.

The Voting can commence!
We are breaking with the routine a bit here and opting for some hot summer night locations for our next Classic Eats. Based on suggestions, the votes include more ocean oriented locations as well as another Hollywood Classic Margarita Mexican place. There is also a spot for write in votes on this ballot as well, if you have a Hot Summer Night Classic Spot that comes to mind.

Hot Summer Nights and Classic Eats — what goes better together?
I’ve penciled in Saturday August 29 for #7 and would like your suggestions for some hot summer, open air, cool drinks classic places to go. (I still have a huge list of places for future Classic Eats, but the summer required more specific input…)
In the El Cholo wrap up, Jesse suggested Quality Seafood at Redondo Beach (been there for about 50 years) and then Burns! chimed in with Tony’s at the Redondo Pier — also been there for about 45 years. They have a great views and souvenir mai tai glasses. I also thought of The Reel Inn in Malibu–great seafood and tons of outdoor picnic tables to lounge around. It’s only about 30 years old, but pretty classic and nice on a hot summer afternoon/early evening. There also Lucy’s El Adobe for refreshing margaritas and yummy mexican food on their comfy outdoor patio. I also know Will Campbell has been to a place on Olvera Street for margaritas after a long day of work on a hot day. Nothing gets more Classic LA than Olvera street…
Think summer, think chill-out and make a few more suggestions please. I’ll open the voting in a few days.

Last Saturday was Classic Eats #6 at El Cholo on Western. It was a quiet affair, just nine of us in attendance, but we got some new Classic Eaters initiated and there was lots of fun discussion about upcoming possible locations for Classic Eats #7 and beyond. The margaritas, the nachos, the green corn tamales, the conversation and the company were all top drawer!
Classic Eats #7 will be in August and I’m going to bet it will be hot. Help me with suggestions about some outdoor, shaded, chill-out classic place we can all congregate to. Lucy’s El Adobe has a great covered patio, so I’ll keep it on the vote list for next time. Please put your suggestions in the comments. Remember, it needs to be Classic LA, old school, been around for ages, historical in some way.
Thanks again to all who attended and we’ll see you next time!
One more pic after the jump.
