You Can’t Escape LA!

I’m in Northern Ireland for work reasons and spent last weekend driving up the Causeway Coastal Route. In a little village called Carnlough, I saw this sign and it made me laugh. I was tempted to make an appointment so I could feel closer to home.

Race For The Rescues

Animal lovers abound here at LA Metblogs (among the authors and readers) and whether the animals are cats or dogs or bunnies or birds or even coyotes, we love them all.

On Sunday October 4th, Race For The Rescues is a fun family event to raise money to support our homeless dogs and cats and seven of the amazing organizations that keep them out of the city shelters and therefore out of the death chamber. The day’s host is The Rescue Train, a non-profit, no-kill organization, saving as many little lives as they can.

The main event at the Rose Bowl will be a 5k walk/run and 1 mile kids race. There will also be music, LA Laker cheerleaders, shopping and of course, pet adoptions. This event alone makes a huge difference in the lives of pets waiting for adoption. From the website:

In the past three years, Race For The Rescues raised over $200,000 to help support seven non-profit rescue groups. Once again we are proud to say not one dog or cat from this adoption day went back to a city shelter to face euthanasia. Help us meet our goal this year to send those city shelter trucks back EMPTY!

Let’s keep them goggies and lolcats out of the city shelters and get them into loving homes.

Classic Eats On Hiatus Until January 2010

I know you’ve all been waiting with bated breath for the “save the date” announcement for the next Classic Eats event. Alas, we’ll have to wait for a while longer. Starting next week I will be out of town until December and as December is generally packed full of holiday events, we’ll hold off until January and celebrate the new year with Classic Eats #9.

Thanks for all the great evenings we’ve had in 2009 and keep making your suggestions for places to visit in 2010!

Classic Eats #7 Wrap Up: Reel Inn

After a long hot day, what a refreshing evening of cool breezes, salty air and fresh fish we had at The Reel Inn last Saturday night! Thanks to all who came out to partake of the fun and fish and festive company. There was surfing trivia and Primo beer, and I personally was stoked.

Mohans, a Metblog author from Dublin staying in Cali for a few months, made it up from Irvine for the event, yay for him! We also had some other first timers to Classic Eats – welcome Shannon, hopefully the regulars didn’t scare you off the next one. Burns! and Mr. Hooks — you were both missed.

Thanks again for a fun, low key, hot summer night!

Just FYI, the Reel Inn has a counter where you order, then they call your name. So come on in, get in line, get your order up and then come out and find the gang enjoying a beautiful LA evening.

Bras and Booze Tonight at Jenette Bras

For us busty gals, finding a sexy bra in our size can be challenging. We need strong support but we don’t want to look like we are wearing an industrial sling. Enter Jenette Bras where the motto is: “The alphabet starts at D.” Hallelujah!

Jenette Bras has been open for four months and tonight they are celebrating with hot jazz, cool drinks and lots of lingerie models showing off the store’s wares. There will be one night only discounts and bra-fitting demonstrations. Oh, you men are welcome too. (Does anyone really need to twist your arm to see hot babes in gorgeous lingerie? I thought not.)

The Reel Inn: This place has been open for about 30 years and serves fresh seafood and cold beverages in a rustic and very beach casual way. Spend the day at the beach then head over to the Reel Inn for great food to be eaten on the outdoor patio as you watch the sun go down. Dude, that is so LA.

Quality Seafod/Old Tony’s: These two spots have been there for about 50 years each. We’ll grab some seafood chow (or chowder if you like) then head over to Old Tony’ for a great view and a great mai tai in the souvenir glass.

Lucy’s El Adobe: A mexican spot near Paramount Pictures and old Hollywood. Lucy’s was known for movie clientele but more so for the music crowd that came in. The Eagles, Linda Ronstadt to name a few. They have a great outdoor patio to relax and be social as we sip cool drinks.
