Win Tix to Julian Casablancas at the Palace Theatre Friday the 13th!

The Downtown Palace

Ooooooo, spooky! Former frontman of the Strokes, Julian Casablancas, has a residency at the Palace Theatre this month, and damn is this show hot! It’s the first time in quite a while that anyone has played a rock show there, in this gem of a classic Broadway movie house–so you can listen to a guy from New York sing songs about New York while in a venue that is actually as old as the ones in New York–a rarity out here, I know.

His new album is really pretty good–we’ve all been listening to it around at work–and I know you’ll enjoy the show. So we’ve got tickets for you! To win, tell me your favorite garage rock band. “Garage rock” is an elastic term, so you can tell me everything from Weezer to the Ramones to Death (the Detroit punk band). Hey, ho! Let’s go!

My favorite Garage Rock band would have to be King Khan and the Shrines. Live, they will blow you away. (Check out side projects, King Khan & BBQ Show). I’m also very fond of The Monks – a garage rock band that played during the same time as the Beatles in Berlin – a bunch of GI’s playing rock and roll in their off time.

Question Mark and the Mysterions! A Detroit band from the 60’s featuring Mexican-American musicians name after a Japanese science fiction film. Doesn’t get any better than 96 Tears either.

The Kinks have one of the most impressive collections of songs ever crafted. They are true pioneers. The Strokes’ Is This It is an undeniably classic collection of garage rock songs, that will be cherished for generations to come.

Apart from The Strokes, The White Stripes are the most recent garage rock band I can think of. I’m really lacking on the oldschool cred!

yeah yeah yeahs are a nyc based garage rock band. their style has been described as an edgy post-punk, dancefloor-friendly racket that mixed up blondie with siouxsie and the banshees.

My favorite garage rock band is the Sonics, no question. They were originators, playing screamnin stompin songs about Psychos and Witches when the Beatles were tsill singin “Love Me Do.” Gerry Roslie is an American original, without him, no Stooges, No white Stripes, no Strokes, no King Khan, at least not how we know them!

My favorite garage rock band is the Sonics, no question. They were originators, playing screamin stompin songs about Psychos and Witches when the Beatles were still singin “Love Me Do.” Gerry Roslie is an American original, without him, no Stooges, No White Stripes, no Strokes, no King Khan, at least not how we know them!

If we’re going to go there, then it would be the Strokes. They were the first band that really hooked me into music and listening to their music takes me back.
