Divine Doughnuts in Burbank: Doughnut Hut

I discovered Doughnut Hut via the troubled Yelp, where folks raved about its selection & fresh flavor. I’ve since stopped by a handful of times for a dozen doughnuts to take to work. Today, I stopped my rabid acquisition of ‘nuts long enough to take some photos.

You can find Doughnut Hut here, on Magnolia a little east of Buena Vista.

The Hut offers a wide selection of the rare light, airy French crullers in a rainbow of flavors, from strawberry & orange to a luscious maple. They also have a cornucopia of filled doughnuts, from pastry cream to the hard-to-find blackberry.

The old-fashioned buttermilk doughnuts are rich & crumbly, fragrant with that tangy buttermilk note. And the staff is really friendly, striking up a conversation as we selected my dozen-plus-three.

Gotta love that sign, spelling “Doughnut” without the “U”, then announcing, “What’s missing?” Why…YOU, of course! Hee hee hee!

Attention all Doughnut Hut donuts: this Saturday many of you will end up in my belly. You’ve been warned. That is all.

For the 3 1/2 years I went to John Burroughs High School (1 block up the road), I ate donuts from Doughnut Hut EVERY MORNING!!!! (I’m not exaggerating…..they knew what I wanted without me asking……eventually it was ready for me by the time I got there)

Also, a little known fact, they’re open pretty much 24 hours. Being that in high school, we never slept, I would frequent that place at all hours. I even knew the schedule of when they made each type of donut. Assuming it’s the same guy (It’s been over 10 years), the donut chef at night is SUPER NICE and chatty!!

If you’ve never had a truly fresh donut (Krispy Kreme doesn’t count!!!), and you happen to be out and about in Burbank at 1am and after, stop by the Doughnut Hut and be ready for some magic.
