Hey! You Got Your Bacon In My Maple Doughnut!!
So yeah, let me obligatorily offer the qualifier that the above-featured confection may not be suitable to everyone’s taste, but for me since first hearing about Nickel Diner’s bacon maple doughnut I’ve been jonesing to try one — a dream finally realized this early morning when five of us pedaled from Silver Lake for a re-do of the infamous Ten Bridges Bike Ride.
Since the Nickel was conveniently on our way, I directed us to a stop at the eatery where for $4 I was delivered a box bearing two of the beauties. With real bacon crumbled upon a moist and gooey maple-glazed circle of fried dough, they are unique to say the least — and one was enough. Seriously, I transported the second one the length of the ride and home to my wife Susan, who sampled it but said it wasn’t her style. But then she’s the kind of person who can’t stand pancake syrup coming in contact with anything else on her breakfast plate, whereas I am not such a syrup segregationalist.

I’m with Fraz on both counts. Will is good for a quota of at least one flash of brilliance per post (and often many more!) I could swear people were talking about this place at Classic Eats Formosa Cafe. What gluttons we are, stuffing our faces with chow fun while getting all misty-eyed about the next places on the list. The donut idea makes sense to me. If you like pancakes or waffles with syrup, and bacon on your plate, then this seems like a natural. I don’t each much bacon anymore, but I’ll make an exception for this. Damn PETA people. Oh, de little piggy wiggy has a face. Yeah, so does your burger, your chicken, and your damn fish.
Oh and you must try the Cher Cupcake and the homemade poptarts and ding dongs. Hell, just go and try everything!
Matt is correct. We were talking about these at Classic Eats. When Julia told me about them, I began salivating immediately and couldn’t wait to try. Of course, the days have conspired against me, but I will get my bacon doughnut, dammit.
Huckleberry in Santa Monica has a maple-bacon biscuit. Very good. The only problem is that you have to go to Huckleberry to get them–bad crowds.
Actually, in the photo they look like bacon bagels, which while obviously not kosher, strike me as being a potentially fantastic combination.
