Franklin Ave. asks, "What’s your favorite ‘Song About Los Angeles’"

Mike at Franklin Ave. was inspired by our Songs About Los Angeles series and has created a poll asking his readers which L.A. song is their favorite. As of this post, 96 people have voted, with no clear winners, but Randy Newman’s “I Love L.A.” is in the lead with 22% of votes cast. Strangely, Walter Moore is also on the list currently in second place. How’d that happen?

Go vote.

I voted for OTHER: Michelle Shocked "Come a long way" (I’ve gone 500 miles today and never even left LA…). A bit of a story, lots of local images, and a happy sound to it…can’t count the number of times I’ve sung this song to myself while driving on the freeways…

What, no option for Sinatra’s "L.A. Is My Lady?" I’m appalled! A glaring omission like that? What kind of polls do they run over there at Franklin Ave.?

"I Love LA" is quite possibly one of the most superficial songs ever written about LA. Even songs that hate on LA have more insight than that lame-ass song.

@ gabriele360: That is a really great one. I was going to write about that, but opted for The Decemberists’ "Los Angeles, I’m Yours" instead. Hm, maybe I’ll try a hand at writing round 2.
