It Caught My Eye (And Burned My Retinas): Shine

Just in case you’re ever up at Tongva Peak in the Verdugos at 12:36 p.m. on the 31st of a future January (this one being far more beautiful than the picture below demonstrates), be careful where you look because at that very minute the sun hits some big ass building west of downtown and boy shit howdy does it catch the sun and bounce it right back at you (click to enlargify):

Any clue what the structure is — or who might be operating an unlicensed death ray?

Hmmm, looks due south of downtown to me. I am not sure what building it is, but based on the location it’s probably near USC, which would be a good place to conduct death ray research. It’s probably licensed, they have that kind of juice.

I can’t tell where your death ray is located, but there is a new building near the Wiltern that looks like a solar flare for about half the day every day.

lol, we just saw the exact same thing this afternoon from almost the exact same spot! Some of the crew wondered what it was.. I said building but it wasn’t as clear as it is in your photo. I don’t think I got a pic of it.

I think its the Superior Court building on 6th & Commonwealth in the Westlake district. Its 13 story mirrored facade seems like a prime suspect.

That’s a great shot of the city, smog and all.
