Classic Eats #2: Downtown Delights This Saturday

Your votes were tabulated and winning by a landslide rockslide was Downtown Delights: Union Station/Traxx restaurant and Phillipe’s!

Here is the plan for this Saturday, January 24:
4:00 – 5:00 Unofficial get together to look around (and for me personally) photograph Union Station. (Sun sets at approx. 5:15pm)

5:00 Meet at Traxx (the bar section) for a cocktail and meet and greet of Metblog Authors and Readers.

6:30 or 7:00 We’ll mosey over to Phillipe’s (it’s about 1 1/2 blocks away) and have some Classic Eats.

Again, as we are an all volunteer authorship, we can’t host this event so it’s Dutch Treat. However, I will buy a drink for the person who tells the group the best factoid or story about Union Station. Winner to be determined by round of applause.

Don’t forget, we’ll be having Classic Eats #3 in February, so if the places you voted for didn’t win, don’t worry, we’ll get there.

For maps and parking and details, please make tracks past the jump.

Union Station (if you are not coming by train) is at:
800 N Alameda St
Los Angeles, CA 90012
(213) 683-6875

Here are directions to Union Station.

There is parking at Union Station and probably street parking surrounding the area.

Here is a map of Union Station itself. Notice that Traxx Bar is separate from the restaurant. Between 4 and 4:15 I’ll be at the Main Entrance with an “LA METBLOGS” sign. Then I’ll be walking around taking photos and drinking in the gorgeous-ness of the 70 year old station.

Here is the Traxx website again.

Philippe’s is located about one block from Union Station.
1001 N. Alameda St.
Los Angeles, CA 90012
213-628-3781

Here’s a google map to the whole kit-n-kabooble

I’m really looking forward to seeing you there!

Thanks Julia! I’ve never been to Union Station, and am planning to come by directly from the Go Green Expo.

[...] On February 1 and 7, CityRace LA hosts an urban race through Chinatown. Teams of 2-4 will roam chinaman’s land for 3 hours; similar to High Trek, teams will be in hot pursuit of clues and scavenger hunt items.  Registration is $35 per person.  Sample clue: “One of the public rooms in this downtown landmark was virtually turned upside down in a classic Hollywood disaster film.”  If you know this and other like trivia about our fair city, your team has an excellent chance at winning an unspecified “selection of prizes,” which I take to mean anything from a can of Bud to a new 5-piece living room set from Levitz.  First commentator to answer this question correctly will win the highly coveted Metblogs community admiration and a drink on my dime the next time we both are at a Metblog Classic Eats event.  (How about the one this week?)
