There’s a storm acomin’

When I got the alert earlier today and promptly ignored it. These things usually don’t apply to me, nor do I ever get witness them. It took me a long time to realize the flashes of light I was seeing was lightning.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN OXNARD HAS EXPANDED AND EXTENDED THE

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR… EASTERN LOS ANGELES COUNTY IN SOUTHWEST CALIFORNIA… INCLUDING THE EASTERN ANTELOPE VALLEY…SAN GABRIEL MOUNTAINS… AND SAN GABRIEL VALLEY…INCLUDING THE BIG HORN AND SANTA ANITA BURN AREAS.

* UNTIL 1215 AM PDT

* AT 910 PM PDT…DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A LARGE CLUSTER OF STRONG THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE ANTELOPE VALLEY…SAN GABRIEL MOUNTAINS…AND SAN GABRIEL VALLEY. THESE STORMS HAVE A HISTORY OF HEAVY RAINFALL AND FLOODING…AND WILL CONTINUE TO SPREAD SOUTH AND WEST. SIGNIFICANT ROADWAY FLOODING IS EXPECTED. IN ADDITION…MUD AND DEBRIS FLOWS WILL BE LIKELY ACROSS THE BIG HORN AND SANTA ANITA BURN AREAS.

I’m moving inside after I put away the bikes and electronics, it doesn’t seem like the people setting off fireworks are too concerned.

    Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! You’re welcome to it. We sent that to you from up here in Las Vegas (well, a smattering from Arizona, too). Woke up to thunder so loud last night I thought we were under attack. A very unsettled weather system indeed.

    We sat and watched the lightning from our porch for hours last night. It was gorgeous! Though we are far enough from it that we had no worries, and so could just enjoy the view.

    Nothing happened! After I got everything inside, I decided to stay out a bit and enjoy the breezes. About an hour after posting this, the sky started to rumble and rumble…and rumble. No more lightning, just a lot of noise. I went inside around midnight and not a drop of rain touched down over here.

    I was kinda hoping for a free car wash.
