Found on Road Alive: 1966 Cadillac Coupe DeVille

The year was 1966.  The Cadillac Coupe Deville stickered for an outrageous for the era $5,339 in base trim.  It was 18.6 feet long and tipped the scales at 4,460 pounds.   Motivating the car was a 340HP, 429 CID V8.  Premium gas was 37 cents/gallon.  Cadillac put 50,580 units on the road that year making it the #2 seller in the line up.

This is a true survivor right down to the rust bubbled vinyl top.  It was spotted a block off of the old Route 66 as it ran through Monrovia back in the day it first hit the road.

Pic by me on my stroll this morning down to my youngest child’s graduation from elementary school.

    Sweet.

Amazing (oh, wait…not so amazing) that Americans would embrace cars that were TWICE the weight of this sucker?

Pointless trivia: I learned to drive in my parents used ‘61 Caddy…

In its period the car was sweet and fit the period. Somewhere along the line everyone forgot the lessons of the 70’s and early 80’s and high fuel prices. Now those SUV owners are really getting bit in the ass.

    What a Beautiful car.

I used to drive a ‘65 Coup DeVille, and it was an amazing vehicle. I really miss it. It got better mileage than some big suvs!

    Ironically I now drive a tiny Scion…

If I had $$$, I’d trick that out and make the Procmobile.

Maybe she can get you a CRYDIS?

    :-)

    J/k.

The TARDIS piggy bank rules. When you open it up, the 10th Doctor talks to you…and then when you close it, it makes the TARDIS sound and lights up. Here’s a pic:

During my youth back east, I learned to drive on a ‘67 Coupe de Ville. I failed the driver test the first two times– any guesses why? Yup, the three point turn. Ever try doing that with one of these barges?
