If you’re like me and somehow still don’t have a hands-free arrangement for your phone, you may be caught doing last minute headset shopping this week. If you’re not ready to take the full plunge to becoming another of the growing population of bluetools and walk around with a little 3rd of 5 do-jigger in your ear and just want something to use when you’re driving, you might want to check out this site which offers free headsets for many phone models. (If you do want to go the Borg route, the site also has cheap earpieces, by the way.)

    I was about to order, then checked in at The Better Business Bureau’s site. Seems they’ve had some complaints.

    I ordered a headset from freeheadset.org right after you posted this and, as reported by other consumers on the BBB site, my order has been listed with the following status for six days:

    Status: Electronic Shipping Info Received

    The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper on June 12, 2008 to expect your package for mailing. This does not indicate receipt by the USPS or the actual mailing date. Delivery status information will be provided if / when available. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later.

    So, I sent them an irate email and here’s how they responded:

    Hello,

    Thank you for your email. Your order has already been shipped and the package is currently in transit with the US Postal Service.

    Your package will be delivered with-in 10 business days.

    The BBB only allows us to accurately update our information and improve our standing, if we pay them hundreds of dollars per year.. They are not the upstanding organization that so many are lead to believe.. In fact, they are the opposite..

    Please reply if we can be of further assistance.

    Of course, my order status hasn’t changed so we’ll see what happens.
