It Caught My Eye (Part II): Birds Of… Hollywood

A few days after my wife Susan and I found this fantastic half-complete bird mural by “Elkpen” on Fountain near Gower, I biked the long way home to see if progress had been made on the second panel. It had (click to triplify):

This pic was snapped last Friday so the thing might be finished by now, but of late I’ve been too busy being sick and sick of being busy so I haven’t had a chance to roll over. To my first post reader Greg commented that he knew Elkpen to be one Christian Kasperkovitz, and that she has another “Birds of Hollywood” mural above 5544 Hollywood. Seems she’s as reclusive as she is gifted. The top items on a search of her name on the Google were illustrations she’d done for the KCRW website and a picture of mural she painted in a home shown on housebeautiful.com.

This mural is right around the corner from me and it’s gorgeous. It’s also educational, as it will help me identify the raptor who shows up randomly in the carport. I love having it in my neighborhood, and hope that the taggers can hold off for a little while.
