Best Steak in LA?
Okay. I don’t usually do this cuz I’m mostly a vegetarian girlie girl….. but I’m yearning for a steak tonight and since it’s a special occasion, I might just have one.
Any suggestions out there on where to snag a good steak? Has to be a sexy, romantic intimate room, good for kissing. Oh! And good drinks or great wine are necessary. And it would be really cool if it didn’t cost the farm.

Well unfortunately, most of your really good steakhouses are far from sexy, romantic and intimate.
If you’re more interested in atmosphere over substance, I would recommend Musso and Frank.
Grab a private booth, a couple of dry martinis and smooch away.
Naw. I want it all. what happened to small, intimate places with good food? Musso’s is too clattery for me. And it always seems so fast, not rushed exactly, but not the place to linger.
How about Taylors Steak house in Korea Town?

If you want old school style with padded booths and a nice dark place to canoodle, try the Sherman Room near Sherman Way and Balboa Blvd in the Valley.
Well, speaking as a valley-dweller, I like the The Smoke House in Burbank.
The Sportsmen Lodge Bar & Grill is pretty good too.
Either place is pretty likely to be quiet and intimate on a week nite.

Pacific Dining Car (not the Santa Monica location) has great steaks.
The best steak I have had recently was a dish called Steak Ducali at San Remo in Van Nuys. I know its weird, but it was FANTASTIC.
For a more intimate setting, try Peppone in Brentwood. Best Italian restaurant in LA, hands down.
Matt Denny’s Ale House in Arcadia, PLUS it has hundreds of beers available…steak and ale its about as good as it gets.

Pacific Dining Car - Downtown location. Some of the best service in LA, too, and classy as hell.
Of if you’re really up for a treat, try Jocko’s in Nipomo. Make reservations, and be prepared to wait. It’s not the most upscale place, but it is one of the strangest restaurant experiences on Earth, and the most massive steak you’re likely to ever eat.

Gotta eat steak now before it’s cloned meat…. ah! to find organic steak when I’m out. I can only seem to get it when I cook it… which is rare.

The Madison on Pine in Long Beach. The restaurant is in an old ‘20 bank building, the steak is excellent, they have an extensive wine list and their au gratin potatoes are to die for.
I know I’m a day late, but…
Not a steak place per se, but Lucques in WeHo serves a fantastic club steak for two, and is a much nicer space than any steakhouse. You can also try Saddle Peak Lodge in Calabasas, which specializes in game meat, if you don’t mind the animal heads on the walls. They have an excellent filet mignon with bone marrow and bacon terrine, and a cote du boeuf for two. Ask for a table next to one of the fireplaces. Although SPL is probably out of your price range (though it isn’t any more expensive than any high-end steakhouse (Arnie Morton’s, Mastro’s, et al.))
Nick & Stef’s in Downtown LA isn’t bad either, but again, probably out of your price range.
I haven’t been to Pacific Dining Car, but recent reports have been mixed at best - they’re possibly going downhill. Taylor’s is good, but food-wise is a step or two below the top-tier places.
Though not intimate, I much prefer going to a Korean BBQ or Japanese Yakiniku place, simply because you cook small portions of meat as you go, so it’s always hot when you eat it. When I order a big steak, it’s always cold before I finish. Tsuruhashi in Fountain Valley is excellent, as are the Koreatown mainstays (Soot Bull Jeep, Chosun Galbi, et al.).
Funny…. Lucques is where my fab man and I met. It’s our favorite restaurant…. but I haven’t had the steak. I’ll have to try it next time. Again, thanks for all the recommendations. I’ll be a busy meat eating girl!
Steakhouses, smeakhouses…
There’s a rice house on Pico attached to that nubbing they call the West wing of the Westside Pavilion. I nevere remember the name of the place, but it’s right across the street from the Gyu-Kaku. You want good steak and romantic atmosphere? That’s your place. Just don’t eat the sushi and you’re good to go.

I second Rodger’s vote on the Tam. Plus they have CC Brown’s hot fudge sundaes on the dessert menu now.
One more: I can’t vouch for it personally but I’ve heard good things about George Petrelli’s Steakhouse in Culver City.
