NFL Watch: City of Industry

Industry is on the map. Really. Under that green arrow there.

The Coliseum is out of the NFL sweepstakes. So is Carson, and Pasadena.

Today, Anaheim became the latest city to bow out [1] of the Please-Come-Back-And-Play-Here NFL Derby. This leaves one proposed site on the table for Los Angeles County: The City of Industry [2].

If this is our only hope, we’re screwed.

I’ve only lived in L.A. for a few years, so I never knew what the City of Industry was. I thought it was a chamber of commerce slogan. Then, I learned that Commerce [3] is a city, too. WTF? I think I’ll create a city called Marketing. Or Trade. Wait – I’ve got it…

Welcome to Business, CA: “Where Business is Up Front, and the Party’s in the Back.”
Jason Burns, Mayor

Let’s say for shits and giggles, we do build an NFL stadium in Industry. Here are some fun facts I discovered in my exhaustive 5 minutes of research:

  • City of Industry was incorporated in 1957
  • Population (2005) 800
  • Located 20.1 miles from Los Angeles. ETA 29 mins./1 hr. 20 mins. with traffic
  • They have a Metrolink station
  • Headquarters for Hot Topic [4], Newegg.com [5]
  • They have a Claim Jumper [6] and Wal-Mart
  • There’s a rodeo held in October
  • It’s home of the Puente Hills Mall – Twin Pines Mall in Back to the Future

Wow. This should definitely seal the deal. We need things to be more spread out here anyway. More sprawl. More commute time. We’re dangerously close to improving L.A.’s quality of life as it is.

Again, if we want an NFL team in Los Angeles, it needs to play in Los Angeles. Downtown Los Angeles.
