Hometown Return

Hello LA Metrobloggers and readers! I will be a guest blogger on the LA site through Thanksgiving week, driving down from San Francisco tomorrow with my wife and daughter. You can find out more about me and read some of my recent blogs at the SF Metroblogging site.

I was born and raised in Los Angeles, growing up in Santa Monica (McKinley and Franklin Elementaries, Lincoln Jr. High, and graduated Samohi in 1985). This is my first extended trip down to LA in about six or seven years, the last trip a crazed road trip with a band I was playing bass for, gigging at Al’s Bar, Goldfinger’s, and a party in downtown LA. Times have changed, and now I’ll be with a family and doing family things–sort of like what I did growing up there. Kind of weird. The other strange thing will be knowing how to navigate the city streets and freeways, yet so much will look different on those streets. Will my old shortcuts even be beneficial anymore (if I can remember them)?

This is my wife’s first trip to LA, after moving to California from Japan with me in 2003. I look forward to showing her the homes I grew up in, the schools I went to, the places I used to hang out. Perhaps for both of us it will be looking at things anew. She and our two-year old will get to meet some old family friends and a few of my high school and college friends.

Thanks in advance for allowing me to guest-blog here and for reading my blogs. I hope that you will enjoy reading them!

    Welcome back and Happy Thanksgiving!

It’ll be interesting to know what your wife thinks of L.A. having never been here before.

You’re from Frisco? Right on! So where is that anyways, somewhere near Fresno? Must be a nice place to drive thru.

Almost as nice to drive thru as Van Nuys, except San Francisco has nice cold, burly surf. But the AAA Giants farm team does play in Fresno–that must be where your confusion lies.
